Whoosh! A Queer Writing South Anthology
Various
Whoosh! collects the work of nine exciting new queer writers based in South East England. These edgy, original and varied stories and poems embody the strength of the region’s queer talent, covering themes such as otherness, homelands, lifestyle, childhood and the issue of ageing for gay and lesbian adults.
The volume is the result of a year-long project which culminated in a ten-week programme of workshops open to local writers from the LGBT community. The sessions were led by the organisers of Queer Writing South, Pighog poets Maria Jastrzebska and John McCullough. Whoosh! was launched with an evening of readings by the contributors and other established queer writers from the region at 2008’s Brighton and Hove Pride, which, along with Awards for All, helped fund the project.
The resulting anthology, a joint publication from Pighog Press in association with Queer Writing South and THE SOUTH, is a fresh, innovative and varied mix of new poetry and prose.
