Ellen de Vries is a multi-talented writer whose challenging and touching poetry draws on her Dutch-Irish heritage and the experience of living in countries such as Morocco, Romania and Yemen. The work takes an understated approach to the emotional ramifications of place and family, delineating her personal pathway through life with a quiet, arresting beauty. De Vries has read her work on BBC Radio and in 2003 was honoured with the Netherlands Write Now award for her poem 'Mijn Buurt'. She was nominated for the Gregory Award in 2006 and in 2007 Pighog published Girl in the Air.
